Artists

Alejandro Rubio:

I grew up in Montevideo, Uruguay, where I discovered my passion for making art. I studied drawing and painting with two different artists: Guillermo Fernandez, and Edgars Ribeiro Nario. Both were related to the art school founded by Joaquin Torres-Garcia in Montevideo in the forties, so my upbringing is rooted in the modern tradition. My main influences were Torres-Garcia himself, Klee, Miro, and Picasso. In 2001 I moved to Davis, California for personal reasons. I have taken part in several group shows in the area since then. I currently have my first solo show in the US in Café California, a restaurant and art space in Davis. I have also just been selected by the City of Davis to create a public art piece.

Since 2004, I have been represented by the John Natsoulas Gallery in Davis, California.
